This year’s sixth annual Firemen’s Ball was a terrific success.  Many volunteers from around the state joined local volunteers to prepare and serve the food, sell t-shirts, provide drinks, and work the silent and live auctions.   The evening ended with music provided by The Dune Dogs, The Ocracoke Rockers, and Aaron Caswell’s Band.   The fire department cleared a little over $60,000 this year, which is due to the hard work of many people and the generous supporters of the department.  Obviously many people want to see the department achieve its goal of building a new, much needed fire station.

There are three people that need special thanks.  Larry and Stephanie Ihle of Ocracoke spend months lining up sponsors, gathering items for the auctions, and collecting volunteers.  Dave Finch of Raleigh gathers in volunteers from off the island, organizes the music, and supervises the cooking.  They make a great team.

If you haven't attended one of these events, put the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend on your next year's calendar. You will be guaranteed a fun evening.  The auctions always have lively bidding on great items and the music will get your toes tapping.

Your presence and financial support will help the Ocracoke Fire Department reach its goal of building the new station more quickly.  Make your reservations now, if you don’t already have a place to stay that weekend.
